The Signs Are Showing is an exploration and celebration of bold, vivid graphic form. Inspired by the signs and symbols found in todays built environment; highways, rail, freight, aviation, haulage, pharmaceutical, chemical industries…

Surface application is taken to two extremes; smooth gloss and coarse texture, adding depth and tactility to the work and heightening the optical tension overall.

The collections of paintings, known simply by the numeric order of their release, can be arranged in an infinite number of ways to create unique compositions. As more pieces are added to individual collections, the overall composition develops and changes over time…

The idea of collectivism and the individual are important aspects to the work overall. Each individual painting is a one off, and comes signed with its own unique code (e.g. R01.01). As each new Release is released the overall work fragments, becoming co-owned by a group of unconnected individuals, the work as a whole, never to be brought back together again. Through these themes ideas around community, interaction, isolation and identity are explored…
